La Maga
La maga is the first theater dance performance by Cristina Duque, who works on the stereotypes of women, her proposal is born from the investigation of the stories of women who run with Wolves written by Clarisa Pinkola and she chose the story of Vasalisa.
Her work seeks a narrative within the dance, where she creates a character and the specific moments that this character goes through.
This was her first solo work in choreography and dance, featuring music by Juan Duque, costumes by Gabiru, and logistics handled by Nataly Bunay and Jesy Gutierrez. The project was part of Balao’s first residency, directed by Tamya Guayasamin.

The Ashes
of the Moon

Creation and interpretation
by Cristina Duque
This project explores death from a contemporary perspective, using it as a metaphor for life itself.
In the performance, a woman attends a wake for someone she does not know. Feeling lost and without guidance, she embarks on a journey to confront her own experiences of death. This introspective quest leads her to delve into deep memories of her own traditions and the concept of death as transformation.
Through this process, she discovers what it means to “die” a little every day. The work integrates contemporary dance, theater, poetry, and singing, set in a timeless atmosphere.
